Facebook - Constant Pain & Occasional Joy

I've hated facebook for giving me a lousy 2008, and for some time now, I've gone in only to accept friend requests and PLAY POKER.

Over the weekends, for reasons I can't even recall, I decided to change my profile from "single" to "it's complicated".

D opined that my status should be "married", and went ahead to do the editing for me. And after changing my profile to "married", he clicked "ok".

I said,"Wait, to whom am I married?"

D's response: "Just don't drag me into another saga"

Bad response.

Totally triggered my demonic mode, and caused me to say this: "ok, I'll change it to "widowed"".

"Fine!" D snapped back.

I searched, and couldn't find "widowed" on the list.

So I chose the next best option: "It's complicated".

Since that little episode, I've received a number of texts and mails from concerned friends (I have to say, I feel blessed that despite my aloofness, I do have really good friends)

I took a look at D's list of notifications, and saw the comic effect those changes have created. I had no idea that profile changes are being tracked so closely and published so quickly - almost the instant those changes were made - on the notification page of those on my friends list.

The 2 changes ("single" to "it's complicated; "married" to "it's complicated") were reflected one after the other, consecutively, and made me look like I'm either in a really bad situation, or merely highly confused.

What can I say?

I did say "it's complicated", didn't I?

LOL!
