Alberto

Alberto died today at 8am Singapore time from post-surgery complications. He has been with D and me for 16 years.

Alberto is the greatest love of my life, and I don't quite know what to feel or do right now and how I am going to move on. My head tells me that life will go on as usual - and that all there is left to do is to accept that the plans that are made with Alberto in them will now have to be carried out in Alberto's absence.

Before I start to become bitter over Alberto's leaving me so suddenly (yes, his kidney started breaking down 9 years ago, his liver has not been in great shape for years, he has gallstones, his lumbar bones have fused together probably for years now, and his pancreas was failing too recently... but Alberto has run the household and been eating well up til last Monday) , I want to tell Dr Geetha Nellinathan from Animal Clinic and her staff who have taken such good care of Alberto how much I appreciate their love and care for Alberto throughout the period that he was hospitalized and in the 16 years they have attended to him. I want to also thank Dr Ben Landon from Landon Veterinary Specialist for having worked on Alberto and cleaned up his systems, and Mrs Landon (Dr Thian) for letting me know that Alberto was very comfortable post-surgery. I understand it is Alberto's time.

There is so much I want to tell Alberto, and I will take my time to do it.

My sincere condolences for your loss. ((Hugs))

I looked up cat age conversion and 16 cat years = 80 human years. Although there is never a good time to part with a loved one he lived a full life and then some.

I hope that when I'm 80 there will be someone as kind and warm as you to care for and feel about me the way you loved Alberto.

The thing to remember is that he knew he was loved and cared for and loved you back. All of us will eventually leave the planet, but you can find solace in knowing he had a wonderful life with you.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Sometimes there are no words. Remember he definitely loved you the way you loved him. I lost my cat (my best friend) too last year so I know how you feel. I hope the the good times you spend together will comfort you.

Thanks, Lonely. I've been researching on the topic and found nothing reliable so far. I'm afraid to turn to the bible.

Thank you, Soullfire. Alberto might be 80 in human years, but he was always my child.

You are a very lovely person, so I'm sure you will have many who will love and care about you when you are 80.

Many hugs back.

Batavia Trader,

I am so sorry for you loss - yes, there are no words when you lose a best friend and a child.

When I was 10, my best friend who was also my classmate and neighbor died in an operation to remove her brain tumor, and for the 2 years that followed, her mother would tear every time we run into each other. My family moved away after that and I have never seen her again. I keep feeling her sadness though.

When I lost my Dad and paternal grandparents (the only adults who could love a brat like me), I was sad; since losing Keisha and Alberto, I have been heartbroken.
